Tech schools
I don’t really have clear idea of what jobs graduates of tech schools will land to until I got a job in HR and was in-charge in recruitment in a manufacturing firm. The company is expanding and we need more vocational/technical graduates to fill in the vacant positions. At first, department manager requires graduates of Mechanical or Electrical engineering courses but it is next to impossible deploying a graduate of such course in the production line as Machine Operator that’ll be receiving minimum as entry level salary. After convincing the hiring manager to change qualification requirements, we settled down to graduates of technical schools. Since then, we had a number of pool for the manpower requirements. It was only then that I learn and appreciate the importance of vocational and technical courses. That dilemma in recruitment also became my problem in my second HR job. It’s really hard to find the best fit. I was able to deliver the requirements but it turned out that the company became a training ground and was used as a stepping stone for a better opportunity abroad. Hence, employees leave the company even before they were handed their regularization papers.
Since demands in skilled workers are increasing here and abroad, tech schools are also growing in number. A directory of it offering different fields such as it training is available in the web for everybody’s convenience.
