It was last month when I and Ace happened to meet one of the member of their IT department at the hardware store. That time, the issue on blogging during work hours is the headline in their company so they got to talk about it for a while. I asked if there’s no way for them to trace who those employees are and he said it’s really hard because they might be using a PROXY SERVER. I’ve heard proxy server being mentioned a lot of times but I didn’t get how it works and what benefit could we get from it until a few days ago when I received a comment in my blog that I haven’t publicly declared yet. I haven’t linked that blog to my domains yet and only two people I know mentioned that they were able to read it. One close blogger friend who happened to see my link in one of the memes I have joined and one extended family member.
Okay, let’s talk about the comment. The commenter said she/he is an ANONYMOUS FOLLOWER of my blogs and both my sister and BIL’s blogs. Based on what she/he said in her comment, she/he seemed to know us WELL and even seen us personally including my sister’s family and even knew their way of life. Reading on the comment, I know at that instant who it was. But when I traced the IP address, it was located in Pakistan. That left me wondering who in the earth I know “lives” in Pakistan that’s been a constant lurker in ALL our blogs even the blog that I haven’t publicly declared as mine? As far as I know, only few “loyal” blogger friends has been following my blogs but they don’t know us and haven’t seen us personally. Though the IP address kept her/his anonymity, I am pretty well convinced my hunch is true. Did she/he use a PROXY SERVER? Then I tried to google what a proxy server is and how it works. I have found a site for a free proxy server and I tried how it works by visiting one of my sites through it. Gotcha! True enough, my IP address (including my location and other facts) was hidden and another IP address was recorded in the sitemeter…that I visited from one of the states in US. To make sure that it’s my IP through a proxy server, I left a comment to see if the IP address (using the proxy server) matched with the record in my sitemeter. I was amazed with the result because the IP address in my comment and the sitemeter matched! Then I concluded, my SUSPICION is TRUE. I can’t understand the purpose of hiding its identity from leaving a comment. Maybe she/he thinks I wouldn’t think of ways to identify her/him. Sorry, but it is my second nature to investigate on things that I think has irregularities. And I just can’t accept things that is presented to me as it is especially if I smell something fishy. By the way, I need to go. I have to dig on the old clothes of Ace and check if we were able to bring in here the old tuxedos that he’s been keeping. He asked about it early this morning. Maybe he needs it or he might lend it.
Anyway, have fun using PROXY SERVER!!!!
