Bye Vista, hello Windows 7

It was late last year when my laptop started acting up. Suddenly I cannot connect to the internet using a broadband stick that I normally use when my smartbro canopy is not working or if I am out of town. Such a disappointing scene and I panicked! Uninstalled and installed the program more than a couple of times but to no avail. I tried using other broadband stick from other network but I still can’t connect. So the problem is with my laptop, not on the plug-it. BIL said my laptop needs reformatting. I cannot just do it immediately because I have tons of files in this laptop. When my EHD arrived, I transferred all photos and digiscrapping files but for some reason I cannot just reformat because of work files, work emails (that I don’t know how to back-up or transfer to the EHD), bookmarked sites, and all other nonsense things.

Earlier this month, I was forced to have the laptop reformatted and install another OS. Finally! Thanks to Donald for doing it for free! Goodbye headache-laden Vista, hello Windows 7! I am loving Windows 7 to bits!

Ten years ago, it never occurred to me that I will be breathing the internet after I got married. I always see myself wearing that black pumps and office uniform as I always dream to be in the corporate world. But priorities changed, and I decided to work from home. Working from home nowadays is either having a homebased business or working online, of which I chose the latter. I am not adept in using the computer and internet – I just know the basics – but it was never a hindrance to gracefully embrace the online world. So I had my first blog that I set up on my own – and the rest is history.

For the first few months of finding resources online, search engine is my best friend. Any query about something, I usually find the answers from search engines. It was my helpful tool in discovering more of the online world. Not to mention that when I hear about new products, I search for it in Google! It was also my shopping “assistant” as I used to search for reviews, the specifications, and even pricing of the things that I wanted to buy online or from the stores.

Because the internet is so vast and almost everything is already found online, sometimes it takes time before you will find what you are really looking for. Now there’s a new tailored search toolbar called Zugo – and I think it’s great. Zugo is said to help increase brand recognition and market penetration because it provides a highly customized search products. I guess I wanted to give this a try later.

Thank you, SmartBro

Soon, I’ll be saying goodbye to SmartBro. Been a subscriber of this ISP since I started blogging in 2008. It’s been more than three years of partnership with SmartBro! The first year was terrible but I had to continue my subscription because I’m covered with the lock-in period. When we moved to the apartment after a year of using SmartBro, I had to request for relocation which is more expensive than applying for a new account. The speed was even better because we are near the base station (tower). After more than a year, we moved here in our rented house and I have to bring along my SmartBro canopy and requested (for the 2nd time) for a relocation. Speed in this area sometimes sucks. But I have to bear with it because I am uncomfortable trying different ISPs.

When the decision to move out of this house is final, I was planning to apply for a relocation (for the 3rd time!) BUT we noticed that smart telecom’s signal is very weak in the place where we will be moving in. There’s not even a signal inside the house! I asked the neighbor and I was told Globe and Sun Cellular has better signal reception in the area and their ISP is Globe.

I don’t have a choice but to shift from SmartBro to Globe broadband. I just hope that Globe broadband’s upload and download speed is faster than SmartBro. I will bid goodbye to my Smart Broadband soon. It’s been more than 3 long years of partnership for my online gigs! I may not be 100% satisfied with the services but at least I have a decent connection speed that lets me do my thing online. Let’s see if Globe broadband can make me a happy camper.
