Troop of babies

We are baby-less until this time. Yet we have bunch of “babies” under our care and with our expenses on their dog food and cat food weekly, seems like we are buying a big can of expensive formula milk. The dogs have Alpo while the cat have Whiskas (in can) and with how BIG they eat, we are spending so much on their food. Not that I am complaining. I am even thankful that we have the resources to buy our babies’ foods.

Anyway, here’s our babies….

Meet the prim and proper Maya (second generation of our original dog named Maya). She was given to Ace (from the troop of dogs that my folks have in my hometown) in January 2004. She was 4 months then, I think.

Then here’s super brave Puto. He is half stray dog and half I don’t know. Japanese Spitz maybe. He was given to Ace April of 2005 March of 2006.

Those two dogs were sent here to Davao and given to Ace because my late Mamang (yes, she’s the one who sent those dogs here) sees a “brighter future” for these dogs under our care. Since these dogs are stray, they aren’t that given much care and attention from where they came from especially that there are battalion of dogs in my grandparents’ place.

After more than couple of years of trying, Maya finally conceived last year and bore 5 pups for the first time but only one survived and we called him Thirdie (the 3rd generation of Maya). Thirdie got his built from Puto and coat from Maya.

So those are our dogs and we still have one pet. A stray orange tabby cat we named KiawKiaw. We found KiawKiaw in the street January of 2007 and invited himself to be adopted.LOL. This cat is a big eater of his cat food and he seems not to get enough. Always asking for food!

That’s our troop of “babies”. I wonder how long will they stay with us. I just hope they’ll be with us until they grow old.

Will we be given with the same number of real babies soon? If yes, then we would probably need bunch of life insurance quotes at Wholesale prices and save for that thing. Since we’re still waiting for that time, then we will just enjoy the company of our pets.

Catnap buddies

KiawKiaw (like any other cat I suppose), loves snuggling. He’s also a lap cat that he just climbs up and sleep on the lap of anybody seated in front of the computer (feeling close!LOL) or even when I or Ace are eating (bad!).

Aside from being a lap cat, KiawKiaw loves taking his nap beside us…beside Ace most especially.

or even on top of Ace’ chest!LOL

or finds comfort in between Ace’ legs (just below the butt actually)

Isn’t he so cute? I find it annoying sometimes especially if I am in deep slumber and he’s snuggling under the comforter with me. When he wakes up, he would wake me up to open the door for him to go out of the room.

In deep sleep

IMG_0741

When I first saw Thirdie in that position (I guess he was one week old then), I was in total panic. I immediately called Ace because I thought he’s dead. Oh well, how could it be when his front legs are raised?hahaha.

I found him sleeping in this position so cute and I wonder if this is the most relaxing sleep position for him because I caught him many times in this kind of sleeping position. It’s like Kiaw-Kiaw’s position we called “feet up!”

Our new baby: Thirdie

This is a long overdue post. I’ve been meaning to post about this but I waited until the photos have been uploaded to flickr so I don’t need to resize and watermark it.

Anyway, I can’t remember if I have posted in this blog that Maya is pregnant. After weeks that we noticed Maya is preggy, she was too uneasy in the morning of October 12. I told Ace (yes, it was a Monday but Ace is at home. He didn’t go to work that time and I am so glad he didn’t) to check on Maya for she might be in labor pain and will be giving birth anytime. After making her a comfy bed of old towel and clean rugs, Maya lied down but still groaning. We don’t know what to do and what to expect so I went inside the house and left Maya with Ace holding the camera so we could take photos of her birthing process. I went inside to ask mr. Google what to expect and what to do when a dog gives birth. Then I went back to Ace with a little info that a pup will come out first followed by a bag-like of water. After a few minutes, Maya is groaning so loud then a pup’s head came out of her.

She then licked the pup and clean it… then cut the umbilical cord and ate the placenta (that was actually gross!)

IMG_0058

Aside from the uneasy and in pain Maya, Puto was also restless during the birthing process so Ace has to tie him so he won’t be disturbing Maya.

IMG_0048

After a while, he must have understood that he has no role to play in the birthing process so he just lie down and wait….

IMG_0103

After giving birth to 5 pups (3 of which are dead upon birth, and one died after a couple of hours), Maya seemed too tired.

IMG_0110

What’s left with us is the first born pup. It’s a he! He was so cute. I wonder where he got his color. As you can see, Maya is brown and Puto is also light brown.

We named the pup “Borski” – Ace’ only sister’s nickname because it’s her birthday when Maya gave birth. But Che2x wanted to continue the legacy of “Maya” so we named the pup “Thirdie” (short for Maya III).

Here’s Thirdie at 2 days old….

Now we have additional member of the family. Like real children, it brings us much joy looking and playing with our new pup, Thirdie. Poor Kiaw2x. He has to take the backseat for a while because Thirdie is the star of the house.

Pregnant?

Not me…I think Maya (our dog) is. We noticed she grew big especially her belly and she seemed to be twice as her size before we move her and Puto here. Yesterday, while I was feeding them, I noticed Maya’s mammary glands doubled in size so I was suspecting she was pregnant. Anyway, I need few more days to observe her so I could confirm that our dear Maya is pregnant. At this point I am really excited about the thought that she and Puto could have puppies soon!

Dirty ears

For weeks we’ve got problem with Puto. He was scratching his ear as if it is so itchy but when I check it, there’s no flea or whatever that may have caused him discomfort. What pisses us is his loud cry as if he is really hurt or wanted to take off his ear at that instant. I found out that his ear is dirty. Yesterday, he was restless again so I checked on him and the back of his ear is already bleeding due to frequent scratching. I took some cotton buds to clean his ear but we had to fight before he lie down and behave so I could clean his ears. After a while, he won’t let me touch his ear and tried to bite me. He might have been hurt or it was really itchy. Since cleaning Puto’s ear is not 100% successful, I searched online for ways to clean a dog’s ear and found out I just need a pet ear’s cleaners. Will try to search for it from an oline dog supplies store for I am pretty sure it would be hard to get it in pet shops here unless we bring Puto to the pet groomer to have his ears cleaned.

Missing Puto and Maya

It’s more than a month living without our dogs, Puto and Maya, and I terribly miss them. When we moved here, we told them we’d get them after a week but it’s been 5 weeks already and Ace isn’t planning to get them yet. I worry about Puto more because he could easily be infested with tick and flea with his long and thick fur. He might be suffering from it now. Ace visited them early this week (after work) and he told me the two are both fine but I forgot to ask if Puto has no tick nor fleas. Read more… »

Kiaw-Kiaw is grounded

kiaw3-copy

Kiaw-Kiaw was with us since our first night here in the apartment. We put him in a travelling bag so he won’t escape during the trip. He was not used to the environment so he was really restless as we locked him in the comfort room with a rug where to sleep on. He was getting used to sleep in the comfort of the comfort room*LoL* for the first couple of nights. When he hears loud voices (yes, because our neighbors outside the apartment compound are like Tarzans in the city), he will run for his life and hide as if he was chased by a predator. Read more… »
