Archives for Weddings category

Every year we different themes emerge in the world of weddings. In the same way that colours go in and out of fashion so do themes. This year is the year of the fun, personal and natural wedding as opposed to glamour and showbiz feel of previous years. Here are some top themes for 2012!

Roll Up For a Circus Wedding Theme

Circus themed wedding are becoming very popular and as it is such a bright and fun theme it is not hard to see why. Choose an invite that is shaped like an old fashioned ticket for starters. Your guests will love to receive such an unusual invitation! Choose traditional circus colours like yellow, red and blue to accent your invites with. For wedding favours choose stripy bags crammed full of sweets and other treats. Decorate your hall with bunting and have a fabulous big top themed wedding cake. These days you can even hire candy floss and lemonade makers with traditional stalls that can be put up at your wedding.

Key Points: Stripes, Bunting, Sweets

Get Back to Nature & Go Rustic

Rustic weddings are going to be huge this year! We’re talking weddings in barns and all sorts of rickety out door places. The sun is setting on the overly preened and perfect wedding day and now is the time of the unaffected and verdant celebration. Go for browns, greens, whites and oranges for this theme. Have exposed wood dining tables and a mass of flora and fauna at your venue. Choose materials like hessian, twine and most importantly; Burlap! Little chalk board place settings work well with this theme as do glass lanterns and big wooden signs.

Key Points: Burlap, Greenery, Wood

Stripped Back Shabby Chic

This goes hand in hand with the rustic theme and the fact that brides are opting for much cuter and laid back wedding themes than in previous years. Shabby chic is a huge style at the moment and the shabby chic wedding theme is going to be one of the biggest of the year. Go for the pastel shades that epitomise shabby chic which are blues, pinks, greens and whites. Choose an invite with a dainty floral pattern and a distressed edge. For your wedding table choose floral cups with gold rims and matching saucers. Choose birdcage centre pieces and tables covered in petals.

Key Points: Floral Patterns, Patel Shades, Distressed Materials

Wearing my wedding band 24/7

My wedding band is the only tangible thing (that I see every day) left from our wedding almost 5 years ago. A good friend suggested we should order larger than our size so when we gain weight (that’s usually happening to married people), it will still fit on our fingers. True enough! I and Ace gained weight but our wedding bands still fit in our ring fingers hence we are still wearing it everyday of our lives.

We had white gold (but not treated with chromium so it’s not the usual white gold that also looks like steel rings in the jewelry shops. Ours is a quaint band with a faint yellowish color. Not as lustrous and elegant as other wedding bands but I like it better because of the matte finish.

7/31: Something I wore today (and everyday for more than 4 yrs now) - my wedding band. D hinuhubad whatever I do, nakasuot talaga sya. #marchphotoaday

Why are we wearing it EVERYDAY regardless of what we do or where we go? Few weeks after we’re married, hubby’s aunt arrived for a short vacation. When Ace was introducing me to her, she excitedly asked “asa man ang wedding ring?” (where’s the wedding ring?). Unfortunately, we are not wearing our rings that time because we just had a whole day general cleaning of the house. But then she said it’s not an excuse. We should wear our rings and never remove it. That’s it! Starting that day, we’re wearing our wedding bands 24/7. I am doing the laundry with my ring on. I am pulling out weeds in the yard with my ring on. Ace giving the dogs a bath with his wedding band on. We even swim in the beach with our rings on!

Wearing our wedding bands ALL-THE-TIME slims down the possibility of losing or misplacing it. How about you? Do you wear the symbol of unending love EVERY DAY of your life?

Two weeks after our Ilocos-Baguio-Manila trip, we flew back to Manila (I am referring here as the country’s capital) to attend Ace’ childhood friend/elementary and HS schoolmate’s wedding. The groom is Ace’ Best Man during our wedding. Upon receiving the save-the-date text message from Ace’ friend, we were beyond excited to witness his good old friend tie the knot with a childhood friend and neighbor back in their hometown.

Ace had the time of his life taking photos with the pre-loved 28-135mm that I bought from an online friend. Here’s some of the photos he took using our Canon 400D.

It was a beautiful and intimate wedding witnessed by close friends and relatives. I and Ace are so thankful we were invited to celebrate with the couple on their special day.

Apart from attending the wedding, we were able to spend time with Kikit’s family (his only sister, Mom, and other relatives) because we spent the night in their rented townhouse while the couple spent their first night in the hotel. We capped the night eating leftovers from the wedding and catching up with each other.
