A peek at Stark Museum of Art
When our youngest sister CheChe was in kindergarten, I went with her on her fieldtrip in one of the local museums in Davao together with mamang Eling and my sister Carol. It was such a wonderful feeling to see the stuffs on display. There are several items that are hundred years old and some are over a century old. This is just a local museum yet the pride I felt having seen and touched some of the treasures of the past was overwhelming.
One of the museums I’d like to visit if only I got a chance is Stark Museum of Art in Orange, Texas. It houses several collections such as Western Art which depicts images of cowboy life and Indian images in paintings and sculptures. There is also American Indian Art which composes of clothing, body ornaments and beadworks such as elaborately beaded moccasins all made by the tribal community members there. You can also find glass and porcelains like the “The Unites States in Crystal” which is a series of 50 bowls that depicts the states including Puerto Rico and the Union under the Decorative Arts collection. In this collection you can find the series of beautiful porcelain birds. It holds the entire series and also some unpainted ones. The best thing that I really would like to see is the Rare Books and Manuscripts where you can find letters, journals and rare treaures like “The Birds of America” which is the finest illustration book of all time. There is also Stark Foundation which aims to improve the Southeast Texans quality of life by encouraging, promoting and assisting education, the arts, and health and human services.
So if you ever come to the US, it’s a must to visit the city of Orange, Texas for these wonderful and priceless collections!
