  • Demand for a Group Life Insurance

When I was conducting company orientation to new hires, aside from the company policies being discussed, it was such a tedious task enumerating all the benefits (both government mandated and company initiated). Everything was layed down from the benefits they are eligible upon employment (the government mandated such as SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-Ibig, and 13th month pay), the benefits they can avail upon regularization (Health Plan, Group Life Insurance, Uniform Subsidy and Rice Subsidy, and the Annual Merit Increase), and other benefits they can avail one year after their regularization (Sick and Vacation Leaves, Bereavement/Nuptial Leaves). When I ask them if they understood everything I have told them, I got a big YES from them. I presume everything’s being understood.

After months of working in the company, they seem to forget many things that have been discussed during the orientation. Hence, I begin to doubt if I am effective or not. Guess they are only excited to work and that the information being fed to them is so overwhelming. Thus, only figures of their salary is being stored in their memory. Anyway, that’s also my case during my first job*LOL*. My long term memory works with the figures of my salary, the percentage and frequency of performance bonuses, and the percentage of salary increase upon regularization. I don’t really bother other company initiated benefits that is very helpful such as the HMO(Health Maintenance Organization) plan I’d be enrolled in upon my regularization (aside from PhilHealth which is government mandated) and the group life insurance. Well, as expected, employees may not get excited with it because these not monetary benefits but at the end of the day, it is of great help in case something happens. So, if you are in the rat race now (an employee), check the list of your benefits and demand for a Group Life Insurance in case it’s not in your list. Anyway, that would not cost your employer that much.
