Our life, experiences, and lessons learned

R.O.I.

Did I mentioned Ace called for a day off last Wednesday? Yes, he was off and we spent the whole day doing not so important things. I also did not work that day. In the afternoon, he was able to chat with his HS batchmate who’s also into photography. Marv John has a Canon 40D he acquired after “retiring” (that’s the word he used. Maybe he availed of an early or optional retirement program of the company) from San Miguel Coporation. We saw his cam during their batchmate’s wedding November of last year. I and Ace was like “wow!”. We’ve been dreaming of having a digicam long before but we just can’t afford one, even a point-and-shoot. Anyway, Ace was always telling me to chat with Marv John if I see him online to ask where he’s buying his gears or we can ask him to buy for us in Australia and hand-carry it when he gets home but I haven’t got the chance. So, when I saw that he’s online last Wednesday, Ace grabbed the opportunity to chat with him about the “hobby”. He said he will rest for a while from being active in his hobby because he’s already spending much to it. He wanted to go back to the corporate world instead and be a corporate slave again. He tried applying online as looking for employment is not limited to hopping from one company to another submitting your application papers. Job search is easier and more convenient with the help of job advertising companies in the internet such as beyond.com where job hunters will get to browse all available jobs from the comfort of their homes or in the internet cafe without spending so much time going to different offices to seek job.

Speaking of the expenses in photography, as what Marv John and other hobbyists say, it’s never ending and without ROI (Return of Investment). Oh well, we cannot expect ROI unless we become a pro and will make it a business. The ROI in this hobby is the satisfaction we get after learning new things, being able to apply it and get an awesome shot. People’s comments about the photo is the main motivation that will keep us going in this hobby. It is so heart warming and flattering that people appreciate the photos I am posting in my blogs. That gives me and Ace the desire to shoot more regardless how much we spent or will be spending. Now, we are looking into getting some filters and other accessories. Even Ace’ heart is into this hobby as he was playing with the toy when has the chance, excitedly show his shots to me and say “Neng, post it in your blogs”. Surely, will be posting the photos soon as I need to attend to other things this time.
