Our life, experiences, and lessons learned

The wait is over

I should have posted this days ago but I forgot to write about it as I was pre-occupied with meeting deadlines and some other things. Anyway, I just had a funny experience withdrawing using my UnionBank EON card. When I got my card last April 10, I asked the bank teller if I need to activate it in the ATM and she said activation will come from their end. After days of waiting, I learned that to activate my card, I need to try doing balance inquiry from the ATM so I asked my BIL to do it for me the following Tuesday (April 15). Upon activating my card, I did inform OHJ that my account is activated so that they could credit our earnings to my account which they did instantly. After 3 days, my acount reflects current and available balance so I was thinking I’d be able to withdraw.

When we had a trip to the grocery Saturday of that week, we tried withdrawing from the Unionbank ATM thinking that my balance is ready for withdrawal. Since the machine prompted us with “UNABLE TO PROCESS TRANSACTION”, we were just thinking that the machine cannot dispense money. The following night, I and Ace decided to go downtown to try with other ATMs but we tried first with VPs UnionBank ATM. The same message prompted us. Then, we tried with other ATMs within VP but we weren’t able to withdraw. Actually, when we tried with one ATM, the couple before us failed to get some money and when it’s our turn, we are still prompted the the transaction cannot be processed. Thinking that the machine have no money to dispense, I told the old man behind us that the ATM run out of money so he just left.

We are really deperate to withdraw so we decided to take a ride to another UnionBank branch in downtown area but before we called for a ride, Ace counted his money first. We only have PhP21.00 coins and the rest are all 1 thousand peso bills. We’ll cost PhP14.00 to our destination so we were left with 7pesos. Upon reaching the bank, Ace noticed that NCCC express is closed (he is thinking of buying something so that we’ll have some coins for our fare). After 2 attempts, we weren’t able to withdraw. We still walked along CM Recto to find other ATMs. Again, we tried with Veteran’s Bank ATM but still, we weren’t able to get money. Now, I was convinced that we coundn’t still make withdrawal from my account and I felt guilty for telling the old man behind us (in VP) that the ATM has no cash.

Now we should buy something so that we can have coins for our fare so we walked to Palma Gil St. to eat at Taps just in time because I am starving already. After 2 days, I was able to withdraw. Yipee!!!!!! This means,  I waited for more or less 7 days before I was able to do my first withdrawal.

EON Card comes handy specially with PayPal. Bank transfer with Paypal, at least with BDO, is unreliable. However, there were occasions also wherein my EON card can’t be used as Debit Card in groceries and drugstores.
