I and Ace joined the Canon Image Nation Photo Safari conducted last Sunday at Gaisano Mall of Davao which was participated in by around 50 Canon users both amateurs and professionals. Actually, I am hesitant to join but Ace is so persistent so I gave in. The photo safari’s theme were only given before the event started and we had around 4 hours to shoot for the 4 different categories. Just imagine walking endlessly at the mall area looking for subjects that could fit in to the category given. Since we only have one camera, we took turns in getting a photo for our own entries. My feet really hurt for endless walking (the result of not having enough exercise) while Ace really enjoyed the activity.
At 2PM we were assembled at Canon dHUB to submit our entries. Yes, it’s a photo contest without post processing because we submit our entries directly from the camera. With so many contestants, I am not expecting my entries to be considered for the top 10 but at past 12MN, I received a text message from the organizer that my entry for Daddy’s Angel was included in the top ten. After a few minutes, Ace also received a message that his entry for the category Happy Forever also made it to the top 10. Yay! He was really happy and had a hard time sleeping because of excitement!*lol*
The finalists were invited to attend the opening ceremony of the store last Monday so Ace call for a half day leave and it was not a futile effort because he received his certificate for being one of the finalists….

I got mine also…

and our photo after the awarding (thanks to Wacky for taking this photo)
Ace was really beyond thrilled that he made it. During the awarding, we didn’t made it to the top 1 but just the thought that our photos made it to the top 10 is something we could be proud of much more seeing the photos bearing our name being displayed at the exhibit (exhibit area is the lobby between Smart and Globe at the 3rd floor of Gaisano Mall) that will run until the 30th.

=Ace and his entry=
That was the last photo he took before we submitted our entries. He had a hard time focusing that when he clicked the shutter, the lady in white appeared in the frame.

=me and my entry (the top photo)=
My entry was taken inside the supermarket. This Daddy is carrying his little angel while waiting for his wife to get some groceries.
I could say this “achievement” was a great confidence booster to Ace. He was really proud of himself and I am happy for that because I really had problem with him being too shy during the shoot (that’s why we used our long range lens because he don’t have the guts to shoot near his subjects).
The activity was so much fun and I am glad we joined because Ace’ confidence reached another level. Now he is loving this hobby more and is now looking forward in joining photo shoots.

Hello!
Thanks for joining and congrats to both of you. We will soon be posting all finalist photo entries for all categories, including select event pictures at our corporate website (www.jonallier.com). A news article got out from Mindanao Daily Mirror about the event last June 26, 2009. Kudos!
