110th Philippine Independence Day

Today, we are commemorating the 110th day of Philippine Independence. Local government units initiated the usual flag raising ceremony in their respective localities. The academe and the private sectors have their own way of celebrating this special day. This day should be a non-working day but the president GMA issued a presidential decree declaring Monday (June 9) as a Regula Non-working holiday in lieu of Thusday (June 12) as the National Independence Day. Personally I am not amenable with the idea of moving the non-working holidays that fall in between Tuesday and Thursday to either Monday or Friday to make way for a long weekend. I felt the essence of the day is being forfieted as the tradition is put to a halt and the supposed to be special and historic day became a regular day. But in a way, it is beneficial too for a longer family bonding.

When I was still in school, we celebrate Independence Day by attending traditional flag raising ceremony at the Municipal Hall and offering flowers to at the foot of the monument of our national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal. Haven’t attended such ceremony for so long so I asked Ace last night if we can attend the flag raising ceremony at the city hall at 7AM so we need to wake up by 5AM. Ace seemed too tired to get up too early so I just get back to sleep. Thus, I end up watching the news of the flag raising ceremony in Luneta.

Happy Independence Day to all! Long live Philippines!

May 1 as Labor Day

Oh, I almost forgot that yesterday, May 1 is Labor Day, a regular non-working holiday. It is a day for the workforce especially those in the private sector. But Ace went to work….the true LABOR DAY(LOL). Last year, if I remember it right, there’s a proclamation that HOLIDAYS that fall on a weekday will be moved on either Monday or Friday. That gives employees a longer weekend to spend with their family.

With the previous holidays this year, the presidential order was applied. Such that April 9 (National Heroes Day), which fall on Wednesday was moved on Monday. However, Labor Day, which is Thursday wasn’t moved on Friday and I am just curious why?  Is it one of PGMA’s inconsistencies? I interpreted it that way. Maybe because, during Labor Day, it is expected that labor groups all over the country will conduct a rally and with all issues thrown at PGMA will surely be aired since she did not even care to answer all of those anomalies in her administration in which she, her family and loyal supporters who holds gov’t. positions are said to be involved. That really makes people of the Philippines unhappy with her administration and I am ONE of the millions who cry for GMA’s impeachment and suffer in prison. Do I sound too mean? Yes, even from the beginning, I never liked her because I have this impression that she wouldn’t be a good president and she did lived up to my expectation.LOL. Anyway, too much about PGMA. I don’t wanna ruin your day as well as mine.
